What is the simplest, fastest and easiest way to bring positive results in your life and work? The answer is simple: your posture. In NLP (NeuroLinguistic Programming) we talk about the Hero's Journey. As a certified Pilates and Yoga teacher, I pay special attention to correct posture and body alignment, but as an NLP wellbeing coach (from nlpgreece), I will talk to you about the Winner's Posture.
The mind-body connection: Physical Intelligence
We are increasingly aware of the connection between mind and body in our daily lives, as well as the interaction between them, so that we speak of “physical intelligence”. The term “physical intelligence” was first used in 1983 by Howard Gardner, who considered it to be equally important as the type of intelligence typically measured by IQ. Seven years later, the two researchers Peter Salovey and John Mayer formulated the concept of EQ, and in 1995, Daniel Goleman published the book “Emotional Intelligence”, one of the most influential books in the field of psychology.
Neuroscience, a modern science that studies the human brain, has revealed important findings. One of them is the concept of neuroplasticity, that is, the ability of the brain to constantly reshape itself. This ability gives us new tools to manage our emotions and strengthen mental resilience. In this way, we can live a life with more quality, physical health, mental balance and fewer addictions.
What are emotions?
We usually equate emotions with mood, but in reality they are something more: they are neuropeptides that are secreted into the blood, reach cellular receptors and trigger chain reactions in the body. We experience these reactions as changes, both physical and mental. The insular cortex of the brain plays a leading role in this process, connecting physical experiences with our emotions. Thus, there is a continuous communication between the body and the mind.
The power of attitude in everyday life
Think of a time when your posture helped you achieve something important, like a good first impression. Or think of the Maori and their war dance, where dynamic movements show strength and courage. This connection between body and emotion is essential. You can try it yourself. Notice how the energy and behavior of others change when you stand up straight, and see the difference it makes to your own mood.
From theory to practice
The way we stand is something we can improve. It is also directly linked to the quality of our breathing, which is a reflection of our physical and emotional state. Good posture helps breathing become freer and deeper, creating a reinforcing cycle between body and mind. Posture is not just physical—it is a way of life. By changing your posture, you change the way you face challenges, build self-confidence, and assert your place in the world.
